November 22nd is observed annually as International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day. Suicide is a difficult topic and often one that many individuals struggle to talk about. Stigma and the underlying fear of discrimination create significant barriers for individuals who seek assistance, making it difficult for people to obtain the support they need.
According to the World Health Organization, over 720,000 people lose their lives to suicide, making it the third leading cause of death among 15 to 29-year-olds. Many of these tragedies occur due to mental disorders, pain or chronic illnesses, isolation, financial challenges, or relationship disputes. Understanding these underlying causes reminds us that suicide is rarely the result of a single event, but rather a call for deeper compassion, awareness, and support.
